There I Was
I composed this piano solo as part of the ballet There I Was. The Nashville Ballet commissioned me and choreographer Matthew Neenan to create a work for their program Attitude: Other Voices which premiered in February of 2020. There I Was is the choreographer’s story of his journey into self-acceptance. The entire ballet is scored for piano, cello, and marimba, and this piece is the finale of the dance. I hope to convey a feeling of peace and optimism with this work.
