There I Was
There I Was is a work commissioned by The Nashville Ballet and choreographed by Matthew Neenan. The dance portrays a journey of self-acceptance while the music illustrates a wide range of emotions. Written for piano, cello, and marimba, the score uses solos for each instrument to reflect important moments in the story.
I decided to release the solo piano finale of There I Was as a single because of its peaceful and optimistic outlook. My hope is that it adds a little bit of beauty in a difficult time.
In the performance of There I Was, five works of mixed-media artist Vadis Turner were suspended above the stage creating a beautifully dramatic set design. Vadis graciously has allowed me to use her stunning work as the cover for this sheet music, bringing our collaboration full circle.
The Nashville Ballet believes in the importance of community and makes it a point to feature local musicians and artists in their collaborations. I am grateful that they have been so supportive of me and I would like to show my appreciation in return. I am donating all proceeds from the recording and sheet music downloads of There I Was to the Nashville Ballet. By purchasing the MP3 and sheet music, you can join me in supporting this wonderful company.
