Mechancial Angels was recorded at the legendary Creative Workshop studio where Spinei played the piano used by Ray Charles and Bob Dylan on the Johnny Cash Show. The piano’s warm history compliments the meditative spaces in each of the four tracks. The contemplative beginning of the first piece Relics unfolds into delicate but stirring melodies. In Peregrine, Spinei is joined by acclaimed cellist Alexis Lee in a piece that juxtaposes sparse piano textures with sustained, lyrical cello tones. Mechanical Angels is the most upbeat track of the four, with lilting rhythms and unexpected gestures. The last piece, Reflection, captures the intimate feeling of the entire EP.
